These four individuals were selected from a group of many worthy applicants and succeeded against tough competition.<\/p>\n

CARRELL HEARN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
\n<\/strong>Carrell Hearn Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) is offered by the North Shore Branch<\/a> in memory of this long-time member and resident of West Vancouver who passed away in 2014 at the age of 105.<\/em>
\n\"\"Recipient:<\/strong> Christopher Devos
\nSchool:<\/strong> University of British Columbia
\nProgram of Study:<\/strong> Bachelor of Arts (BA)
\n
\nPersonal statement<\/strong>: One of my biggest objectives is to follow a career path in the field of education in either an academic or museum-based institution. As an academic and museum educator and researcher, I will make it my personal mission to emphasize and amplify the voices and stories of historically marginalized groups and individuals, such as indigenous peoples, women, post-colonial cultures, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ communities that have existed over time.<\/p>\n

FRANK ALGAR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
\n<\/strong>The Frank Algar Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) was created in 2004 by the Algar family in memory of their father who was one of the founding members of CHHA.<\/em>
\n<\/strong>\"\"<\/strong>Recipient:<\/strong> Gemma Greco
\nSchool:<\/strong> Ryerson University
\nProgram of Study:<\/strong> Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) – Business\u00a0 Management\u00a0 (Major in Marketing)
\n
\nPersonal statement:<\/strong> I was always dreaming about what I wanted to be when I grew up. At the time I didn\u2019t exactly know what that occupation or what that person was going to look like. But the one thing I did know that I still believe in is that whatever I do, whatever I want to be, simply just want to be able to work hard and be happy while doing it and if I can find that feeling in a career then that\u2019s the one for me.<\/p>\n

DR. CHARLES A. LASZLO SCHOLARSHIP
\n<\/strong>The Dr. Charles A. Laszlo Scholarship ($1,000) was created in 2007 by Dr. Doreen Laszlo to honour the commitment and work of her husband on behalf of hard-of-hearing people.<\/em>
\n\"\"Recipient:<\/strong> Campbell Laidlaw
\nSchool:<\/strong> University of Calgary
\nProgram of Study:<\/strong> Business and Kinesiology combined degree<\/p>\n

Personal statement:<\/strong> My goal for the future is to become a commercial pilot. It is a very long and expensive journey that I will have to go through in order to achieve this goal. I will first have to finish my degree in Kinesiology and Business because most airlines require applicants to have completed a degree.<\/p>\n

SUSAN BROWN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
\n<\/strong>The Susan Brown Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) is sponsored annually by the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association – Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter<\/a>.<\/em>
\n\"\"Recipient:<\/strong> Olivia Pero
\nSchool:<\/strong> University of British Columbia
\nProgram of Study:<\/strong> Bachelor of Science<\/p>\n

Personal Statement:<\/strong> My goal is to earn a Bachelor of Science degree and then enter the school of Audiology and Speech Sciences. I would like to give back to the community that has given me so much. Furthermore, I aspire to advance technology in my chosen field.<\/p>\n
