It is designed to help individuals acquire those skills in managing their hearing loss in everyday life, which will help them to achieve optimal well being, personal fulfilment and productivity.<\/p>\n<p>The objectives of the Online Mentoring Program include:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1bbce2;\"><strong>1) For the person with hearing loss seeking mentoring (the mentee)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Facilitate peer support<\/li>\n<li>Promote self-help and education for coping with the effects of the loss of hearing ability<\/li>\n<li>Enable the person with hearing loss to gain leadership and communication skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1bbce2;\"><strong>2) For the mentor<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide an opportunity to volunteer and contribute in a rewarding way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;5696&#8243; img_size=&#8221;1350&#215;650&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;4863&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;bounceInRight&#8221;][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Privacy and Confidentiality&#8221; style=&#8221;square_outline&#8221; color=&#8221;peacoc&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;bounceIn&#8221; custom_font_container=&#8221;tag:h4|text_align:left|color:%231bbce2&#8243; custom_google_fonts=&#8221;font_family:Titillium%20Web%3A200%2C200italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C600%2C600italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal&#8221; use_custom_heading=&#8221;true&#8221;]Conversations between mentor and mentee are conducted online via Chat rooms which are one on one only, and not open to others.\u00a0 However, note that, for reasons of quality assurance, there will be random spot checks on chat room sites, but only by a designated volunteer supervisor.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;What is Mentoring?&#8221; style=&#8221;square_outline&#8221; color=&#8221;peacoc&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;bounceIn&#8221; custom_font_container=&#8221;tag:h4|text_align:left|color:%231bbce2&#8243; custom_google_fonts=&#8221;font_family:Titillium%20Web%3A200%2C200italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C600%2C600italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal&#8221; use_custom_heading=&#8221;true&#8221;]\n<ul>\n<li>Although mentoring has many definitions, the most popular view of mentoring is a relationship between a less experienced individual, called a mentee or prot\u00e9g\u00e9, and a more experienced individual known as a mentor.<\/li>\n<li>Mentoring, which typically occurs at a time of transition, involves the sharing and transferring of knowledge and experience which motivates the mentored person to take action.<\/li>\n<li>Mentoring often has a career development focus and may be a long-term relationship.<\/li>\n<li>However, mentors may also be peers who assist less experienced persons in their community or organization on a short-term basis.<\/li>\n<li>In this program, the mentoring consists of an online relationship between a mentor and mentee, both of whom are hard of hearing (have a hearing loss).<\/li>\n<li>The focus of the program will depend on the needs of the mentee, but will involve providing support to the mentee in managing his\/her hearing loss in everyday life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The mentoring process provides assurance to mentees that they are not alone in dealing with daily challenges. Connecting with a peer who has \u201cbeen there\u201d offers insights and encouragement for those with similar problems who are seeking help.
