CJ was diagnosed with a hearing loss at the age of seven. Ms. Dalton will be completing a Masters of Education in Cognitive Studies at Queen\u2019s University and is interested in the social-emotional and learning experiences of youth with hearing loss.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Frank Algar Memorial Scholarship Winner&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]<a href=\"https:\/\/oldsite.chha.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/mary_cherniak.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2625\" src=\"https:\/\/oldsite.chha.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/mary_cherniak.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"301\" \/><\/a>The Frank Algar Memorial Scholarship 2009 is awarded to Elizabeth Mary Cherniak of Toronto, Ontario. After graduating with a B.F.A. in Film Production from Concordia University, Elizabeth was diagnosed with a mild to moderate hearing loss in both ears and began to wear a hearing aid. Elizabeth will continue her education at Brock University and as a graduate student, she plans to develop an interactive media project that will explore how a virtual reality environment can sensitize young hearing students to the experience of their peers who are hard of hearing.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Dr. Charles A. Laszlo Scholarship 2009 is Monique Guterres of Coquitlam, British Columbia. Monique is currently is enrolled in the Criminology Honours Program at Simon Fraser University. Her goal is to study Environmental Criminology, which examines the geographical patterns of crime! Born hard of hearing, she has been wearing a cochlear implant for 7 years.
